山あいに暮らす生きものの動きや、畑に現れる虫たちの変化は、気候の揺らぎと重なりながら年々その姿を変えています。
時に作物を守るために電柵を張り、犬や馬とともに畑を見回り、土地に合う栽培方法を探しながら実りをつないできたつくり手たち。
気候の変化、鳥獣被害の有無、現地で工夫したこと、消費者のみなさんへ伝えたいこと、そして来年に向けた思い。 質問を通して、それぞれの一年を振り返っていただいています。

猛暑は北国の畜舎にも大きな負担を与え、鶏や羊が弱らないよう夜遅くまで水を替えたり、扇風機を増設したりと細やかな工夫を続けた一年でした。秋には野生動物が近づき、命を守るための対策も欠かせません。効率よりも動物の健やかさを優先する、この農場らしい営みが今年の卵の実りを支えています。

気温や湿度が年々上昇し、とうもろこしや大豆が狸や鹿に食べられる被害もあった年でした。犬や馬を放牧して畑のまわりに緩衝帯をつくるなど、中山間地ならではの工夫を重ねています。気候が穏やかとはいえない時代でも、土地に合わせて育て方を変えながら最善を尽くす姿が、今年の実りにつながっています。

苗を植える時期に季節外れの低温が続き、多くの苗が枯れてしまった春。その後の高温と雨不足で植え直した苗を守るため、連日の水やりが欠かせませんでした。自然農の畑では虫食いや不揃いも増えますが、身体がよろこぶ野菜を届けたいという思いで、地球や微生物と共存し続けています。

梅雨時期のずれ込みや秋の天候不順など、季節のリズムが読みにくい一年でした。電気柵を外したわずかな隙にイノシシが侵入し作物が掘り返されることも。さらに今年は新たな害虫も現れ、作物を守るために日々判断と工夫が必要でした。それでも畑を整え、季節ごとの実りを大切に育てています。

暑さが長引き生姜の病気が広がるなど、栽培の難しさが際立った一年でした。昨年の獣害をきっかけに狩猟免許を取得し、自ら畑を守る体制も整えています。農薬を使わない自然農の畑はゆらぎも多いですが、土地に寄り添いながら野菜本来の力を引き出しています。

猿や鹿の食害が続き、見回りや音の出る装置で対策を行った一年でした。果物は傷みやすく、梱包しても輸送時に揺らぎが出ることがありますが、それでも一つずつ丁寧に仕上げています。気候の影響で収量が減る年もありますが、お客様の声を励みに果樹と向き合っています。

猛暑日が続いた一年でしたが、胡麻にとっては良い環境でもありました。一方で強風の影響により、収穫前に倒れてしまう木が多く、乾燥棚の高さを変えるなど手間のかかる作業も必要に。胡麻が大きくなる前に管理機を入れるなど除草を工夫しながら育ててきました。来年に向けては緑肥による土壌改良を進め、より健やかに育つ畑づくりを目指しています。
